Abstract Summary The study was conducted to evaluate the cyclic fatigue resistance of Plex V, Woodpecker W3 Pro, Fanta AF Blue, and M Pro NiTi rotary files in custom-made simulated canals with different radii and curvatures at body temperature. Total of eighty files size #25 with 6% taper were selected. They were classified into four main groups according to the type of rotary Ni-Ti system used(n=20). Each group was subdivided into two subgroups according to canal curvature and radius(n=10). Dynamic Cyclic fatigue testing was done using a cyclic fatigue testing device along with a custom made artificial stainless steel canals which had 60° and 3mm radius of curvature, and 45° and 5mm radius of curvature. samples were rotated continuously until fracture. The number of cycles to failure (NCF) was calculated. Representative samples from all the previous groups of files were scanned with SEM to evaluate the mode of fracture. Results showed that in severe canal curvature Plex V has the highest cyclic fatigue resistance, followed by Woodpecker W3 Pro and the least cyclic fatigue resistance was for Fanta AF Blue. While in moderate canal curvature there was no significant difference between four groups. |
