Abstract

Hemodialysis is a course of treatment for patients with chronic kidney disease, in order to promote patient self-efficacy, hemodialysis patients have a variety of healthcare demands that must be satisfied. Aim of the Study: This study aimed to assess health needs and self-efficacy for patients undergoing hemodialysis. Design: A descriptive design was utilized for applying this study. Setting: The current study was applied at the hemodialysis units of El-Salam and Al-Hayah Hospitals that are affiliated to the universal health insurance in Port Said Governorate. Subjects: Using a purposive sample technique, participants were selected from adult hemodialysis patients in the aforementioned settings between January 1, 2022, and the end of April 2022. One hundred patients made up the entire group. Tools: Three tools were used to collect data. The first tool is structured questionnaire: consists of two parts, Part (1): is a sociodemographic questionnaire. Part (2): Patient’s health history including nutritional assessment. Second tool : Health Needs Assessment scale. Third tool: Self–Efficacy for Managing chronic Disease 6- item Scale. Results: With a mean age of SD 53,130 ±13,822 and a gender breakdown of 63% men and 69% married, the study discovered that 34% of the sample was over the age of 60. Additionally, it revealed that all studied patients have met level of arteriovenous access care, 98% of studied sample have met level of psychological need, while 96% , 95% & 88% of them have unmet level of diet , sleep &hygiene and mobility needs respectively. There was significant negative correlation between total health needs scores and total self- efficacy scores among studied sample. Conclusion There was significant negative relation between total health needs and total self-efficacy.
