Abstract
Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are strong blockers of gastric acid secretion, and are generally regarded as the gold choice for the treatment of acid-peptic disorders. For patients with upper gastrointestinal symptoms of inexact cause, improvement with PPI therapy is considered clear evidence of a pathogenetic role for acid-peptic disease. In addition to anti-secretory effects, however, PPIs have been found to have anti-oxidant properties. Those anti-inflammatory effects of the PPIs might influence a variety of inflammatory disorders, both peptic and non-peptic, within and outside of the gastrointestinal tract.
Dexlansoprazole MR (modified-release) is the seventh PPI to be introduced into the US market. It is one of the six currently available proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). The protective effect of dexlansoprazole on gastric ulcer induced by oxidative stress had been studied.
The purpose of this study was to throw light on the pharmacological effect of dexlansoprazole on functions of vital organs and mineral absorption as well as it was important to investigate the relevance of antioxidant compounds after induction of ulcer in adult male albino rats.
