Abstract

The present study was carried out at Cairo Poultry Company for broiler breeders, Nobaria, Alexandria. The experiment planned to evaluate the effect of using two sources of lighting (LED lamps and Tungsten bulbs) throughout brooding and rearing periods on the performance through these two periods and the first weeks of production period. The LED lamps were used in production period in all houses. A total of 46600 one-day old Arbor Acres Plus parent strain were raised in 8 enclosed houses (the capacity of each house is 5500 birds), four replicates for each treatment. The studied traits were body weight, body weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio, water consumption, mortality rate and similarity rate during 1 to 25 weeks of age (rearing period). In production period (15 weeks), the studied traits were body weight, body weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio, water consumption, mortality rate, similarity rate, age and weight at sexual maturity, egg number, egg production rate, egg number per bird, egg weight and egg mass. The most important results and conclusions of the present study can be summarized in the following points: First: Rearing Period (25 weeks)
1. The results showed significant differences on BW values at 5, 15, 20 and 25 weeks of age during rearing period, while it being insignificant at 1 and 10 weeks of age. The overall mean of weekly BW for all rearing period (25 weeks) for the birds raised under LED lighting have significant higher BW (1414.58g), compared to those raised under Tungsten lighting (1398.09g).
2. The results showed significant differences on WBWG values only during 25th week of age. The birds raised under LED and Tungsten lighting have insignificant WBWG overall mean of all rearing period (121.10 and 118.00g, respectively).
3. The results showed significant differences on WFC values during all studied week intervals. The birds raised under LED lighting have significant lower WFC overall mean of all rearing period compared to those raised under Tungsten lighting (482 and 497g, respectively).
4. The results showed highly significant differences on FCR values during all studied week intervals. The birds raised under LED lighting have significant lower FCR overall mean (better value) of all rearing period compared to those raised under Tungsten lighting (2.87 and 3.02, respectively).
5. The results showed highly significant differences on WWC values during all studied week intervals. The birds raised under LED lighting have significant higher WWC overall mean of all rearing period compared to those raised under Tungsten lighting (964.54 and 896.04 cm3 /bird, respectively).
6. The results showed significant differences on WMR values during all studied week intervals, except it being insignificant during the 10th week of age. The birds raised under LED lighting have highly significant lower WMR overall mean of all rearing period compared to those raised under Tungsten lighting (0.10 and 0.17%, respectively). These findings reflect that the Arbor Acres Plus hen breeders during 68 rearing period were more comfortable and were more calmer/ less aggressive behavior under LED lighting more than under Tungsten lighting.
7. The results showed highly significant differences on SR values during all studied weeks of rearing period. The birds raised under LED lighting have highly significant higher SR overall mean of all rearing period compared to those raised under Tungsten lighting (85.50 and 80.10%, respectively).
8. Generally, the LED lighting has positive significant effect on all studied traits of Arbor Acres Plus hen breeders strain during rearing period more than Tungsten lighting, except it being insignificant for WBWG values between both lighting sources.
