Abstract

The current experiment investigated the improvement effect of canthaxanthin (CAN) or glycine (GLY) alone or in a combination with sodium sulphate (SS) on the productive performance of Egyptian developed Silver Montazah layers at post-peak of egg production period (44-55) weeks.
A total number of 180 hens were randomly assigned into 6 experimental groups with 3 replicates of 10 hens each. The layers were reared in same management conditions. Open side room-partitions were used to keep the groups of hens separated from each other. The 1st group was fed the control diet, the groups from the 2nd group to the 6th group were fed control diet supplemented with CAN, GLY, CAN+SS, GLY+SS, CAN+GLY+SS respectively, during the study birds were fed experimental diets with a restriction of 100 g/hen/day. The performance parameters and egg quality characteristics and some blood constituents were evaluated.
The main results indicated that:- All dietary additives which used in this study significantly improved egg number (EN), egg mass (EM) and feed conversion ratio (FCR), the highest value of egg number (EN) was recorded with the 4th group of hens while the 6th group of hens had highest values of egg mass (EM) and feed conversion ratio (FCR). On the other hand egg shell thickness, yolk color score, haugh unit, significantly affected by all dietary treatments. Eggs of hens fed a basal diet had the highest value of egg shell thickness, in contrast the lowest value was recorded with eggs of the 4th treatment which had the highest score of yolk color. Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAOC) values significantly affected by all dietary treatments, the highest TAOC value was appeared with the 4th group, while the 1st group gave the lowest value.
In conclusion:- Adding of CAN+GLY+SS mixture into diets significantly improves the performance of Silver Montazah layers at post peak production period.
