Summary
This comparative study between quilting sutures and supra scarp’s dissection in reduction of seroma formation following abdominoplasty .
Modifications of abdominoplasty with Scarpa’s fascia preservation (SFP) was associated with limited dissection, midline musculoaponeurotic plication, and excess skin excision Scarpa’s fascia inferomedial advancement flap is a good approach.
This approach decreased seroma formation, total drain output, the time required for suction drains, and shorter hospital stays.
It also can improve surgical results while maintaining the benefits of the preservation of abdominal wall lymphatics in decreasing postoperative complications especially; decreasing seroma rates and reducing drain duration.
While abdominoplasty with PTS seems to be a great addition to body contouring since it avoids the need to sacrifice aesthetics by restricting the amount of dissection or by forgoing concurrent liposuction, but higher seroma rate. Hemostasis, necrosis, and venous thromboembolic events were also infrequent complications. Because drains were limited, speedy return to regular activities was accomplished, and great aesthetic outcomes, patient satisfaction was high.
