Abstract Worldwide, the daily use of radiation technology in numerous fieldsof our life such as [nuclear medicine- nuclear power plants- agriculture-material analysis -industry -food preservation] and the necessity ofradiological protection of the workers, members of the public and patients inroutine situations led to an extraordinary need for radiation shields. Shieldmaterials should be carefully selected to be highly efficient to protect peopleagainst ionizing radiation. In this work, neutron and gamma shielding properties of some borateglasses were investigated via different parameters such as [Mass attenuationcoefficient (μm), linear attenuation coefficient (μ), Half Value Layer (HVL),Mean Free Path (MFP), effective atomic number (Zeff) and Exposure Build-up Factor (EBF)] using different methods namely: simulation (PHITS) code, theoretically (WinXCOM and Phy-X software) and possible experimentalmeasurements. This thesis contains five chapters; beginning with an introduction, simulation code& theoretical software, theory and calculations, materialsand methods and ending with results and discussion. |
