Abstract

The present investigation was carried out at the Agriculture Research Station, Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University in the summer seasons of 2013 and 2014. The main objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of plant spacing and the time of foliar spraying of amino acids on cotton growth, yield and fiber properties of Egyptian cotton (Gossypium barbadense, L.) Giza 88 cultivar. A field experiment in a split-plot design with four replications was conducted in both seasons. Plant spacings were allocated to the main plots and foliar spraying of amino acids times were arranged in the sub plots. Plant densities were: 1- 30 cm between hills (46600 plants/feddan.) 2- 22 cm between hills (63600) plants/feddan.)
3- 16 cm between hills (87500) plants/feddan.) The foliar amino acids treatments were performed following the recommended method and concentration of manufacturer (135ml/200 water liter/feddan).The sub plots were allocated to three times of Spraying:
1. First floral bud visible 2. Petals visible 3. First flower opened. The most important results obtained from this study could be summarized as follows:- 77 -I- Vegetative characters: This group of characters included plant height and number of vegetative branches per plant.
1- The analysis of variance indicated significant effects for plant spacings and interaction in the two studied characters, expect for number of vegetative branches per plant, which was insignificantly affected by interaction in both seasons.
2- The studied characters were significantly influenced by the plant spacings.
3- Plant height was increased progressively as plant spacings decreased.
4- A progressive increase in number of vegetative branches per plant was obtained with the change in plant spacings.
