Abstract

Background: It Is A Typical Practise In The Management Of Obstructive Lung Diseases For Bronchodilators To Be Delivered To The Patient Using Jet Nebulizers. However, A Small Quantity Of The Drug Could Be Deposited Into The Lung, And This Continues To Be The Most Significant Disadvantage Of This Approach.
Aims Of The Work: The Purpose Of This Study Is To Demonstrate The Effect Of Adding Saline On The Clinical Status Of Patients Who Are Being Ventilated.
Patients And Methods: A Total Of 160 Asthmatic Patients, 80 Of Whom Were Female, Were Randomly Assigned To One Of Eight Groups (Gp1-Gp8). They Received 0.5ml Salbutamol Alone, 0.5ml Salbutamol+1ml Saline, 0.5ml Salbutamol+2ml Saline, 0.5ml Salbutamol+3ml Saline, 1ml Salbutamol, 1ml Salbutamol+1ml Saline, 1ml Salbutamol+2ml Saline And 1ml Salbutamol+3ml Saline Respectively Using Jet Nebulizer. In Which 1 Ml Of Salbutamol Contains 5000 Μg. Before And After Nebulization Of The Bronchodilator, Measurements Were Taken Of The Patient’s Forced Expiratory Volume In One Second (FEV1%), Oxygen Saturation, Pulse Rate, And Respiratory Rate.
Results: 0.5ml Salbutamol Alone Had No Significant Improvement In FEV1%. On The Other Hand, 1 Ml Of Salbutamol Showed A Statistically Significant Improvement In FEV1% (P<0.001). The Bronchodilator Impact Was Increased In Proportion To The Increase In Fill Volume. No Significant Change In FEV1% Was Observed When The Volume Of Saline Was Increased from 2 Ml To 3 Ml. There Was No Observable Change In The Patient’s Oxygen Saturation Levels Either Before Or After The Administration Of The Salbutamol. At Larger Fill Volumes, Particularly In Groups 6-8, The Pulse Rate Increased Considerably (P<0.01). After The Nebulization Was Complete, Some Of The Individuals Reported Experiencing Palpitations As Well As Headaches.
Conclusion: The Bronchodilator Impact Of Salbutamol Was Increased By Increasing The Volume Of Saline In The Jet Nebulizer; However, There Was A Maximum Bronchodilation That Could Be Achieved By Increasing The Fill Volume.
