Abstract

There is no marriage without problems and disputes. These continuous disputes threaten the stability of the family and leads to a major imbalance between the married couple. This study aims at investigating pragmatic acts which have been performed by husbands and wives in some social cartoons. Thus explaining the tensioned relationship between men and women and showing how gender differences affect communication process. In order to achieve these objectives, the study adapts Jacob Mey (2001) ”Pragmatic Act Theory” and Theo van Leeuwen (2008) ”Representation of Social Actors”. The results of the study show the different practs that characterize the social cartoons and they are Discussing, Arguing, Fearing, Defending, Ignoring, Surprising, Anger, Complaining, Argument, Attention, Lack of interest, Careful – Cautious, Indifferentism, Awareness, Greediness, Selfishness, Spiritlessness in Marriage and Carelessness.
