Abstract Wastewater treatment is one of the biggest challenges which faces the majority of countries in order to obtain clear water which dose not cause considerable threat to healthy or the environment, especially country like Egypt that suffer from large population and lake in fresh water resources. There are several methods for wastewater treatment but each of them faces considerable problems. Some problems concern with the huge consumption of energy and other problems concern with the efficiency of the treatment process. This study aims to investigate the possibility of using nanomaterials to develop wastewater treatment process with high efficiency and lower energy consumption. Magnetite nanoparticles is selected in this study for two main reasons the first is they do not have toxic effect and the other reason is to employ the magnetic properties of magnetite for easier separation from the water by applying external magnetic field. Magnetite nanoparticles was functionalized with some materials that acted as shell to protect magnetite from oxidation and contact with polluted water with wide rang substances. Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) is selected as a parameter of pollutants in wastewater because the majority of contaminates in wastewater are organic matters |
