Abstract

normal for age and sex and for cases with positive HAV IgM, complete blood count and international normalised ratio (INR) withdrawn to assess severity of the disease.
Results: Among the enrolled cases, only 32 case had elevated liver enzymes (8.3%), 4 cases had positive HAV IgM (1%) with no stastical difference between males and females. Practice of hygiene was defected in group with elevated liver enzymes with lower score in some aspects of socioeconomic evaluation in the group with positive HAV IgM in comparison the remained studied population. 25% (n=1) of HAV seropositive cases developed fulminant hepatitis and one case developed post HAV infection Guillian Barre syndrome (GBS).
Conclusion: prevalence of anicteric HAV infection is not uncommon in preschool age group with hazardous sequence may occur that results in marked morbidity and sometimes mortality in this young age; that should highlight the importance of increased public awareness about the disease and deal with its possible risk factors like hand hygiene and improper sanitation.
