Abstract

The effects of Fenugreek oil and Fenugreek water extract on some
parasitological, immunological, and biochemical parameters in mice
infected with Schistosoma mansoni were investigated.
• According to the chemical analysis Fenugreek seeds oil mainly composed
of linoleic acid, (E,E)-4-decadienal, and isopropyl myristate, while
Fenugreek seeds water extract major constituents were rutin, P-coumaric,
hydroxyl-benzoic acid, ferulic acid, and sinapic acid.
• The results showed that the treatment of S. mansoni-infected mice with
0.15 ml of Fenugreek seeds oil daily for 10 successive days exhibited a
significant reduction in the number of male, total and coupled S. mansoni
worms as compared to an infected control group (p<0.05). while Fenugreek
seeds water extract (0.5 ml/mouse for 10 successive days) exhibited a
significant reduction (P<0.05) in worm burden but to less extent than
Fenugreek oil.
