Abstract This study aimed to compare the short-term outcomes of the results of fixation of minimally displaced medial malleolar fractures using percutaneous cancellous screws fixation versus open reduction and internal fixation. This prospective study has included a random sample of 20 patients who have minimally displaced medial malleolar fracture, fulfilled the inclusion criteria and completed 6 months follow up period. All cases were operated at Orthopedic Department of benha University Hospitals and orthopedics department at mahalla general hospital in the period from November 2021 to September 2022. The youngest patient was 22 years old at the time of surgery and the eldest was 59 years old. They were 13 males and 7 females. 13 patients had right side fracture; 7 patients had left side fracture. all patients were operated with in first three days of trauma and were followed up for at least six months. All patients were randomly numbered from 1 to 20 and categorized in 2 groups: •First group: includes the 10 patients with odd numbers and were treated by closed percutaneous cancellous screw fixation. Second group: includes the 10 patients with even numbers and were treated by open reduction and internal fixation. |
