المستخلص

The current study aims to shed light on the critical argumentation theory, as one of the most important contemporary theories of interest to scholars and researchers, as well as highlighting its role in several fields, the most important of which are: Adjudication of debates, decision-making, and confronting formal and non-formal fallacies. Thus, the importance of this study is to direct attention to the theories of argumentation in general, and critical thinking in particular.
Thus, the study was divided into five chapters preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion. where the first and second chapter came to deal with the theory of argumentation in non-formal logic and its contemporary developments, especially according to Stephen Toulmin and Douglas Walton; because they introduced new principles to argumentative theory, as well as using argumentative schemas to represent factual arguments and claims. And then apply it in many fields, whether it is in the media, law, computer science, or in daily life. While the third, fourth and five chapters come to present critical thinking, its foundations and extent of its importance, as well as presenting the relationship of argumentation to critical thinking. Hence the role of the critical argumentation, to analyze and evaluate arguments based on providing good reasons and valid and sound arguments.
In this way, the study proved that the critical argumentation has practical importance in Adjudication of debates, as it provides the critical adjudicator with argumentative and critical principles and guidelines, through which he can take a sound decision, based on transparency and on the convincing evidence presented by the debaters in their case, The study also proved that the critical argumentation has an important role in decision-making on the one hand, and in confronting fallacies in daily life on the other.
