Abstract Background:Elder abuse is increasingly acknowledged as a widespread and serious issue on a global scale. Realizing that most elder abuse occurs in families; elderly people who share housing with their caregivers may be more vulnerable to abuse, including financial, psychological, and physical abuse.Aim: Assess the effect of educational sessions for caregivers regarding elderly abuse in Port Said City. Design: A quasi-experimental research design with one group Pre/Post-test approach was used to conduct the study.Setting: Five primary health care centers located in Port Said City.Subject:purposive sample of 67 caregivers.Tools of data collection:Two main tools were used in this study, the first tool a structured interviewquestionnaire sheet; the second tool; Caregiver’s reported practice regarding elderly abuse. Results: The current study revealed that (82.1%) of the studied caregivers had very good knowledge, and (80.65) of them had satisfactory practice post program with positive relationship (p =0.028*) between caregiver’s knowledge and practice after program. Conclusion: The educational sessions had a positive effect on the elderly caregiver’s knowledge and practices regarding elderly abuse, and there was positive relationshipbetween caregiver’s knowledge and reported practices after program intervention regarding feeding, mobility, and treatment. Recommendations:Develop an awareness program for elders and their caregivers about elderly abuse, its consequences and how to deal with it. |
