Abstract

Underestimation or Overestimation of the root canal length may prevent accurate endodontic treatment results. Endodontic working length determination is a valuable process before the accurate endodontic treatment plan for cleaning and shaping then obturating the root canals. This study was conducted for comparing the diagnostic accuracy of CBCT with EAL in determination of endodontic working length in root canals.
Research was included thirty two canals of 16 mandibular premolars and 16 molars. All teeth were scanned by CBCT and then working length was measured by software and then after endodontic access working length was measured again using apex locator (N=32).
The results showed that EAL working length measurements showed greater accuracy than CBCT working length measurements as the difference was not significant between actual working length and EAL working length while the difference was a significant between actual working length and CBCT working length.
Working length estimation of EAL was more accurate than CBCT when compared to actual working length measurements. Agreement correlation coefficient tests were done and showed that EAL working length measurements correlation agreement to actual length measurements were higher than CBCT working length measurements.
In conclusion, EAL working length detection accuracy is higher than CBCT working length detection to be used in the detection of endodontic working length.
