Abstract
Keloid and hypertrophic scar are pathologic scarring
conditions characterized by fibroblast hyper-proliferation and excess
deposition of collagen. Patient frequently experiences physical deformity,
restricted range of motion, pruritus and pain. Recent studies reported that
Botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) could inhibit the growth of
hypertrophic scars and keloids and improve their appearance. However,
the mechanism of BTXA’s action on hypertrophic scars is still unknown.
Aim of work: to evaluate the clinical effect of BTX-A on keloids
and hypertrophic scars and to detect its effect on collagen deposition and
elastic fibers of these scars histopathologically.
