Abstract total number of 40 Holstein cows suffering from clinical or subclinical endometritis were used in the current study; they were in their first and second parity without culling. Their ration was containing 18 % protein and milking was done three times /day in automatic milk parlor. The study was conducted from March 2022 to December 2022 in a dairy herd of private farm. The animals which were confirmed to suffer from endometritis based on clinical signs, rectal palpation, ultrasonography and cytological examination were divided according to protocol of treatment into 4 equal groups as follow: 1-group 1: 10 cows with presence of CL on their ovaries which were treated with treatment protocol of PGF2-α (Ovu-prost / 2ml I/M). 2-group 2: 10 cows with presence of CL on their ovaries which were treated with PGF2-α (Ovu-prost / 2ml I/M) + cephapirin (Metricure) (500mg cephapirin as cephapirin benzathine) intrauterine infusion syringe. 3-group 3: 10 cows without presence of CL on their ovaries which were treated with cephapirin (Metricure) only. 4-group 4: 10 cows without presence of CL on their ovaries which was treated with 100 ml of prepared Lugol’s Iodine solution (0.5%) intra-uterine. All the treatments were administrated for one time only. All the animals were re-examined for disappearance of uterine discharge, rectally, using cyto-brush and with ultrasonography day after day and examination was followed up till complete cure. The results showed that, days to complete cure conception rate and average days open to first successful service were the best in group-2 followed by group-3 and then group-4 and finally group-1. At 10th day post-treatments administration, hematological results showed significant decrease in total leukocytic count, neutrophils %, lymphocytes% in all the treated groups except group-1. In addition, monocytes % and eosinophils % recorded significant increase in all of the treated groups. At 10th day post-treatments administration, serum level of CRP and IL-6 recorded significant decrease in all of the treated groups, but the highest decrease was detected in group-2 followed by group-3 and then group-4 and finally group-1. Also, feeding cost to complete cure was the highest in group-1 as it take a long time to cure, followed by group-4, then group-3 and it was the least in group-2. Average milk production and return from marketing of this milk during maximum treatment period (1 month) was the highest in group-2 followed by grouo-3, and then group-4 and finally group-1. Net profitability was higher in group-2 followed by grouo-3, and then group-4 and finally group-1. In conclusion: 1- Treatment with PGF-2α and cephapirine (Metricure®) is the best choice for treatment of clinical and sub-clinical endometritis in cattle in presence of C.L followed by treatment with cephapirine (Metricure®) in absence of C.L. 2- Treatment with PGF-2α was less effective in treatment of Endometritis even in presence of C.L. on ovary. 3- Treatment with Lugol’s 0.5 % solution was effective in treatment of endometritis in absence of C.L. |
