Abstract Proximal humerus fractures are common injury especially in the elderly population. They are considered the third most common fracture seen in elderly accounting for 5-6% of all adult fractures. The literature on management of proximal humerus fractures is vast and controversy remains regarding the optimal care of displaced fractures with potential treatment options of non-operative management, open reduction internal fixation by locked plates and arthroplasty. The decision making should be tailored and individualized according to the patient age, medical co-morbidities, functional demands and expectations. The aim of the study is to compare the radiological and functional outcome between open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) using locked plates “PHILOS” and non-operative treatment of displaced three- and four-part proximal humerus fractures in the elderly population. |
