Abstract

The problem of the present study could be phrased in the following statement EFL prospective teachers showed deficiencies in their English-speaking abilities and poor sub-skills in EFL speaking. Because of the complexity of the problem, EFL teachers are compelled to utilize a variety of techniques to help them acquire speaking in an academic setting. The current study presented a program based on reading aloud and online media to develop the EFL speaking skills of prospective teachers.
The present study aimed at :
1- Enhancing EFL speaking skills among EFL prospective teachers at the Faculty of Specific Education, Zagazig University by utilizing a program based on reading aloud and online media .
2- Investigating the effectiveness of program based on reading aloud and online media in developing some speaking sub skills for the prospective of Specific Education.
3- Investigating the effectiveness of program based on reading aloud and online media in developing EFL speaking skills generally for the students of Specific Education.
So, the present study was delimited to :
1- A group of 20 EFL prospective teachers at the Faculty of Specific Education, Zagazig University.
2- EFL speaking skills which represent a challenge to the EFL prospective teachers, at the Faculty of Specific Education, Zagazig University.
3- A Reading aloud and Online media based program to develop EFL prospective teachers’ EFL speaking skills.
Moreover, the present study used the following instruments :
A speaking test of EFL included three oral questions to assess the Participants performance of EFL speaking skills was used .This speaking test was designed for this present study is a semi-direct test, audio-recorded and task-based.
The test materials consisted of a test booklet with instructions and a voice recorder to record the answer. The recorded speaking answer was rated by the researcher using holistic ratings to evaluate the when sounds, syllables, words and phrases are joined together in producing intelligible spoken English while the participants were performing the following linguistic tasks:
1) The exp participants demonstrate a short continuous speech on a familiar topic for three minute.
2) The participants were asked to describe a set of pictures which are not related to any specific field of study.
3) They were 20 sentences out loud. The chosen 20 sentences consist of words difficult to pronounce and tongue twisters.
In order to achieve the prescribed aims , the present study was conducted through the following procedures :
The procedures of the current study could be illustrated as follows:
1- Reviewing literature studies related to both EFL Speaking and reading aloud and online media based program.
2- Designing the instrument, the EFL Speaking test, and submitting it to TEFL jury members to examine its validity.
3- Determining the study participants and dividing them into an experimental group and a control one.
4- Pre-administrating the study instrument to both groups to determine their pre-level of EFL speaking skills.
5- Implementing the reading aloud and online media based strategy with the experimental group and the regular instruction with the control one.
6- Post-administrating the test to both groups to measure the effect of reading aloud and online media based strategy on developing EFL speaking skills.
7- Comparing the results of pre- and post- administrations, using SPSS Version 14 to analyze the obtained data
8- Discussing the results in the light of the study hypotheses.
9- Crystallizing the conclusion, recommendations, and suggestions for further research.
