Abstract

Adhesions are fibrous tissue deposits occurring inside body cavities connecting to tissue sites at non-anatomic locations such as the peritoneum, pleura, and pericardium mainly as a result of a defect in the healing process due to injury of the membranes lining the peritoneal cavity.
Female infertility, chronic abdominal pain, and even intestinal obstruction were commonly regarded as the most important complications caused by adhesions as they can vary in location and severity.
Adhesion is a major obstacle facing gynecologists during the management of infertility and it may be difficult to determine the exact figure of economic burden upon healthcare services in the process of diagnosis and management of adhesions. As for infertility, some surgeries such as adnexal surgeries can cause up to 20-40% of secondary female infertility.
While excluding other ailments of the reproductive system such as endometriosis, polyps, previous infections or operations may lead to intra-abdominal adhesions and therefore to dysfunction of the Fallopian tube.
The negative consequences of adhesions can sometimes be devastating, and the need to treat adhesions through laparoscopic surgery can be essential in the treatment process especially when adhesions are symptomatic.
In this study, laparoscopic adhesiolysis was performed for 80 patients and were observed over the course of six months for achieving clinical pregnancy. 25 out of 80 cases were able to achieve clinical pregnancy spontaneously after the operation.
