Abstract Photocatalysis for environmental applications is an attractive field for research. This work presents a study of the synthesis of NiO and C3N4 and their composites and examines their coupled role as adsorbents in the abcense of light and photocatalysis in the presence of light. For samples’ analysis, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), X‐Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Diffuse Reflectance UV-Visible Spectrophotometer (DR/UV-Vis Spectrophotometer) techniques were used. The adsorption efficiency; was investigated in the absence of light using aniline blue as a model dye and ciprofloxacin as a model drug. Different parameters affecting adsorption in the dark have been studied. The coupled action effect of the prepared materials as an adsorbent and a photocatalyst was investigated under UV and natural sunlight irradiation. Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm models were used to describe the adsorption process and the removal of the target pollutants using the prepared materials. The adsorption kinetics and thermodynamics were also studied. |
