Abstract Gastric cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide Approximately 21,600 patients are diagnosed annually in the United States. In Japan and Eastern Asia, up to one-half of resections for gastric adenocarcinoma represent early gastric cancer. Ninety-five percent of gastric cancers are adenocarcinomas. The antral-pyloric region of the stomach is the most common site of stomach cancer. Proximal tumors account for about 50% of all gastric carcinomas.
