Abstract

The current study was carried out to evaluate the prevalence of malocclusion in both transverse and vertical relations among a group of Libyan population using diagnostic chart and sterilized diagnostic set. A total of 1056 randomly selected individuals from Libyan population within the age range of (17 - 26); 280 males (26.5%) and 776 females (73.5%). The mean and standard deviation of specimen were 20.6 ± 2.1 years selected randomly from different Secondary schools, high Institutes and universities in tripoli and Alkhomes cities after the approval of the related administrations. These subjects were examined clinically to assess both component of malocclusion; in transverse and vertical relations. The study demonstrated that 53.1% had normal overbite, and 37%, 5.5%, 2.8% and 1.5% had increased, edge to edge, anterior open bite and full coverage values respectively. A posterior cross bite registered in 13.6%, scissor bite in 2.7%, midline shift in 26.6% and midline diastema 5.3%. The normal overbite was the most common form of vertical relation while the posterior cross bite was the most common form of transverse relation
