Abstract

This study aims to investigate the nephro protective effect of Gum Arabic on rats suffering chronic renal failure (CRF).80 albino rats (40 male, 40 female) aged 12 weeks and weighing initially 200g will be housed individually in wire meshed cages with free access to water and food. The animals will be divided into 8 groups. normal ,adenine-induced renal failure , Gum Arabic treated and adenine-induced renal failure male rats treated with Gum Arabic.Body weight, food intake, urine volume/d and water intake/day will be determined. At the end, rats will sacrificed and serum was obtained and stored for further analysis Some organs as kidney, liver, brain and sex organs (ovaries and testis) will be excised and weighed. Part of the kidneys was kept for SOD determination. The remaining organs will be placed in 10% formalin for subsequent histological processing. The study reveal that treatment of adenine induced renal rats with Gum Arabic improve level of urea, creatinine, creatinine clearance, uric acid, SOD and Ca in serum and urine with no adverse effect of Gum Arabic on normal rats since LD50 of Gum Arabic of rats is 18g/kg Body Wight
