Abstract

This thesis aimed to the discovery of therapeutic agents derived from Aeglemarmelos(L.)Correa Family Rutaceae by carrying out an applied pharmacognostical study including extraction, isolation and identification of the biologically active constituents. We are looking to reach safe and effective therapeutic agents from botanical origin which can be useful in drug industry. This work included phytochemical screening, proximate analysis, and investigation of the essential oil fresh Aeglemarmelos(L.)Correaleaves and the results of the GC/MS analysis of the oil revealed GC/MS analysis of oil revealed the presence of 30 components from which 27 compounds were identified represent (97.76%) of the total oil compositions, presence of Ü- phellandrene (20.97%)as the major compound.GC/MS analysis of fatty acid methyl esters revealed that the total relative percentage of identified saturated fatty acids was high in both leaves and fruits contributed with(86.46%) and (63.07%), respectively, study of the mucilage contents of Aeglemarmelos (L.) Correa fruits and the yield of the mucilagewas 15 % (w/w)GLC analysis which revealed the identification of seven sugars whereglucose represented the major. Isolation and identification of the main constituents of the petroleum ether extract of Aeglemarmelos(L.)Correa.leaves and fruits and identification of 3 compounds (aegline, aegelbine-B, u-hydroxy benzoic acid)by different spectral techniques as ursolic acid. Isolation and identification of compound 4 (aegelbine-B) from crud alkaloid extract using different spectral techniques.
