Abstract

Knee chondral defects do not heal and if not treated may progress to degenarative joint changes. Treatment of full thickness knee chondral defects is a challenge with many available options for management. There is a trend towards biological and tissue engineering solutions. This is supported by the good results of numerous studies. However, study designs are mostly heterogenous and difficult to be compared. Some relatively simple and cheap cartilage repair procedures (as cartilage paste grafting) have been mentioned sparsely in the literature, and claimed to yield results that stand in line with those outcomes of more complex and expensive techniques which were and still are extensively studied (as autologous chondrocyte implantation). In this study, we compared the clinical results of cartilage paste grafting and microfracture (which is the most common performed cartilage repair modality). Thirty patients with full thickness knee chondral defects were divided in two groups. group I included 15 patients treated with microfracture (MF). group II (15 patients were treated with cartilage paste grafting
