Abstract

Radar operates by radiating electromagnetic energy and detecting the backscattered echo from reflecting objects (targets). The nature of the echo signal provides information about the target such as position, velocity, and perhaps size. Useful target signal is usually immersed in different unwanted signals such as noise, clutter, interference, and jamming. These unwanted signals degrade the ability to detect targets and must be reduced compared to the useful target signal by different signal processing techniques. Moving target detection (MTD) is one of the radar signal processing techniques. MTD achieves an enhanced performance because of the use of Doppler filtering extensively, adaptive thresholding and fine ground clutter map. The core of the MTD digital signal processor is a bank of Doppler filters designed such that their length equal to the number of the returned pulses during each illumination time
