Abstract Background: Zinc and copper belong to the essential trace metals needed for optimal growth and development. Estimation of serum zinc and copper in the maternal blood and cord blood of neonates were carried out to study and compare them in the term and preterm neonates and their mothers. Results: The mean serum copper level in cord blood in full term neonates was1.37±0.26 æg /ml and in preterm was 0.75± 0.28 æg /ml and their mothers were (1.69 - 1.40 æg /ml respectively). The mean serum zinc in full term was 0.88 ± 0.18 æg /ml and in preterm 0.73± 0.13 æg /ml and their mothers (1.09 - 0.96 æg /ml respectively). And it was proved to be statiscally significant |
