Abstract

Anatomical and MRI description of the cruciate ligaments for the sake of perfect surgical reconstruction of the torn ligaments is mandatory as anatomy was the basis of orthopedic surgery. The cruciate ligaments are pair of very strong ligaments connecting tibia to femur and prevent excessive movement of the two bones on each other, they are the most important in providing passive restraint to anteroposterior knee motion. If one or both of the cruciate ligaments are disrupted, the biomechanics during ambulatory activities may be disrupted. Single bundle (SB) reconstruction may not adequately restore normal knee kinematics, particularly tibial rotation. It has been shown that anatomic double bundle (DB) reconstruction restored better knee kinematics compared to SB reconstruction alone.
