Abstract Antibacterial activity and solubility are considered important properties in the selection of a suitable root canal sealer. This study was carried out to evaluate and compare the antimicrobial activity and solubility of a Copaiba oil resin based sealer, with resin based sealer(Ah26) and Ca(oh)₂ based sealer (CRCS) and Zno based sealer (Caryosan). The antibacterial activity tests used were the agar diffusion test and direct contact test. The direct contact test was performed at different time intervals (24hours,3days, 7days and 14days). A known strain of Enterococcus faecalis (ATCC 29212) was used in this study. The inhibition zone was measured for agar diffusion test, while colony forming units per ml(CFU/ml) was measured for direct contact test. A fresh mix of each sealer was used in both tests. The solubility test was evaluated by placing mixed sealers in Teflon molds measuring 12mm in diameter and 6mm height and left to set. Five samples of each sealer prepared , then measured for obtain the baseline weight of it ,and then immersed in distilled water for 24hours,3days,7days and 14days.after the specified immersion periods tha samples were weighted .the solubility test recorded weight loss of the tested samples |
