Abstract
the current study demonstrated that pre-exercise alkalosis within the body by NaHCO3ingestion may have the capacity to delay the acute fatigue caused by exercise -induced metabolic acidosis.Those beneficial effects of sodium bicarbonate administration on muscle performance and biochemical parameters in exhaustive exercise were evidenced by: Reduction of blood pH and serum lactate Reduction of muscle inflammation, oxidative stress and injury evidenced by reduction of serum IL-6, MDA and CPK. Increased gastrocnemius muscle peak isometric twitch force and time needed to reach exhaustion
