Abstract Mandibular reconstruction is a very challenging procedure that requires consecutive steps for its execution, as large bony defects need a graft for its optimum healing in this study autogenous corticocancellous bone grafts were harvested from the anterior iliac crest and condensed in an autogenous bony crib prepared from the iliac crest. Platelet rich fibrin was applied to the graft as a membrane which was prepared intra operatively by withdrawing of 40cc of venous blood from each of the 6 patients included in the examined group of this study, while the remainder 6 patients were reconstructed with the same way except for the platelet rich fibrin membrane .The patients were followed for one year post operatively both clinically and radiographiclly, a CT was taken every 3 months during the whole year, the results were analyzed using the mimics software to determine both the bone density and bone volume .The results has shown increase in bone density of the examined group but no difference in bony volume in both groups, clinical results were similar to other published researches with no major complication during the study. Platelet rich fibrin is very simple in its preparation and can be used as a membrane for various uses in oral and maxillofacial surgery with good results |
