Abstract

Chronic periodontitis has been defined as an infectious disease resulting in inflammation within the supporting structures of the teeth, progressive attachment loss and bone loss. It is the most prevalent form of periodontitis. Although it is most frequently observed in adults it can occur in childrenand adolescents in response to chronic plaque and calculus accumulation (Fleming, 1999). The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of systemic administration of soya bean and antioxidant Vitamin C and E on the periodontal health of postmenopausal women clinically and radiodensitometrically. The study group was divided into 4 groups: group I (control group): consisted of 12 patients who received no drugs, group II (Soya bean group): consisted of 12 patients who received soya bean 35 mg capsules twice daily, group III (Antioxidant Group: Vitamin C + E): consisted of 12 patients who received Vitamin C 500 mg capsule twice daily and vitamin E 400 mg once daily, group IV(Vitamin C + E + soya bean): it comprised 12 patients who received a combination of soya bean, Vitamin C and E. Radiodensitometric evaluation was performed for teeth supporting structures and mandibular bone density using a special software digora program
