Abstract

Hundred volunteers of either sex ranging from 30 to 45 years were participated in this study. The patients were presenting to Outpatient Clinic, needed extraction of anterior teeth in the lower jaw. The 100 patients were divided into two equal groups, 50 of them had mepivacaine HCL local anaesthesia and the other 50 had articaine HCL. Each group divided into two equal subgroups one had labial and lingual infiltrations and the other subgroup had labial infiltration only. Then patients had the extraction. Pain scores due to anesthetic procedure and extraction were recorded by patient by visual analogue scale (VAS) from zero to 10. Before extraction the labial and lingual anesthetic effect were checked using an explorer prob. The data were collected and analyzed using (SAS) software. In articaine group; during anesthesia there was no statistically significant difference between mean VAS scores of buccal and lingual infiltration techniques and buccal infiltration technique only, also during extraction there is no statistically significant difference between mean VAS scores of the two techniques. In mepivacaine group; during anesthesia there was no statistically significant difference between mean VAS scores of the buccal and lingual infiltration techniques and buccal infiltration technique only but during extraction buccal and lingual infiltration technique showed statistically low mean VAS score than labial injection only
