Abstract

The present study evaluates the rodenticidal effects of extracts of four plants by mixing with normal diet which were; calendula whole plant (Calendula officinalis), oshar leaves (Calotropis procera), sumac leaves (Rhus coriaria) and bergamot pulps (Citrus bergamia) on rats (Rattus norvegicus) and mice (Mus musculus). Each of the four plants (calendula, sumac, oshar and bergamot) was extracted by three different solvents; ethanol, hexane and petroleum ether which were studied their effects by feeding under laboratory conditions. Dried ethanolic extracts diets of oshar, calendula, sumac and bergamot gave the highest effect on both rats and mice mortality compared with other plant extracts, while bergamot diet achieved the lowest animal mortality and the mean times required for rats death were 7, 8, 9 and 12.5 days for oshar, calendula, sumac and bergamot ethanolic extracts diets, respectively in non-choice feeding method. The oshar leaves ethanolic extract diet had the highest toxic effect against rats
