Abstract The experiment has been performed in order to investigate the effect of using effective microorganisms (EM) as an application of Enhancing Biological Phosphorous Removal (EBPR) in modified contact stabilization activated sludge system by using contact tank as a phosphorus uptake zone and using thickening tank as a phosphorus release zone.Results showed the removal efficiencies of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD5) and Total Phosphorus (TP) for this pilot plant with the range of 93%, 93% and 90% respectively during the first stage by effecting of 3mg/1 influent TP, while during the second stage and third stage were with the range of 86% for both by effecting of 8mg/1 and 13mg/1 influent TP respectively |
