Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the capacity of calcium sodium phosphosilicate (Novamin) on remineralization of initial Enamel lesions. Enamel surfaces of 90 freshly extracted human premolars were subjected to ESEM analysis and microhardness measurements. Initial enamel lesions were produced in all premolars which were divided, according to the remineralizing regimens, into three equal groups (n = 30): group I: received deionized water, group II: received fluoride - containing dentifrice and group III: received novamin - containing dentifrice. All specimens were subjected to ESEM analysis and microhardness measurements. Results: group III showed complete remineralization of enamel specimens while group II showed incomplete remineralization, comparable to the baseline appearance. For evaluation of microhardness, Tukey post hoc test was performed for multiple comparisons , and the results showed a significant trend, where Novamin agent had the highest remineralizing effect, followed by fluoride and deionized water respectively (Þ < 0.0001). Novamin - containing dentifrice exhibits a greater degree of remineralization than fluoride - containing dentifrice on artificial enamel lesions
