Abstract

AFRS is almost exclusively a disease found in areas of high humidity, where mold counts are higher than other regions. AFRS can account for up to 32% of CRS cases undergoing functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). AFRS presents at a younger age (mean 21–33 years), is more common in African Americans, and demonstrates a male predominance (1.5–2.6:1)
This study was performed on 70 patients divided to (50 case of AFRS and 20 control) to assess role of IL5 in AFRS compared to control.
The expression of IL5 was more prominent in nasal polyps of patients with AFS than in nasal mucosa of control group also IL5 has strong correlation with Lund MacKay CT score and SNOT-22 score
Our results in addition to those of others provide encouraging evidence supporting targeting IL5 as an eligible therapy of promising benefits.
