Abstract This research introduces a novel peer-to-peer system that relies on Blockchain Technology (BT), Inter-Planetary File System (IPFS), and Chatbots for exchanging and managing on-site information and related as-built digital assets. The system is developed through a three-path operation, including i) developing a permissioned blockchain network for exchanging textual data, ii) developing a private IPFS network for exchanging on-site visuals and digital assets, and iii) developing a chatbot for data communication. A system prototype is built and validated in terms of practicality and generalization for exchanging on-site information and as-built digital assets and accommodating multiple use-cases, respectively. The prototype performance is technically evaluated in terms of transfer latency, storage size, block compression ratio, scalability, and privacy & security. Moreover, an analytical model is provided to assess the determinants influencing the adoption decision of BT-based applications using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and the Technological, Organizational, and Environmental (TOE) framework. |
