Abstract

Dermatological problems, especially infectious dermatoses, affect a high proportion of school children in developing countries like India. Skin disorders in children may result in considerable discomfort, parental anxiety, and embarrassment to the child and unnecessary absence from school and work. This, in turn, leads to loss of confidence and disruption of social relations, feeling of stigmatization, and major changes in lifestyle.
Primary education, which is obligatory in Egypt, makes schools representative of the great majority of the child population. There are very few epidemiological studies on skin diseases among primary school children in Nigeria and majority of them only focused on infectious skin diseases and only one study investigated skin disorders in general and revealed a prevalence of 48.1% among primary school children in Sagamu.
Thus, we aimed to make an epidemiological study of skin diseases among selected primary school children in Benha, Kalubia governorate, Egypt. The study was conducted on 400 children taken from the selected schools in Benha district, EL Kalubia governorate. Also, 400 Parents who might be mothers or fathers.
Patients were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria:
Inclusion criteria: All children from both sexes attending the selected schools at the school year (2019-2020) were included, and the parents and care givers of the selected pupils were asked to participate in the study. The only inclusion criterion was being the child care giver and to be in contact with the child and both genders were eligible to participate.
Exclusion criteria: chronic illness, refusal to participate, major neurological disorders e.g., epilepsy.
