Abstract

The scapula plays several roles in facilitating optimal shoulder function and this requires both significant mobility and stability. The scapula is coupled with the arm in normal shoulder function. Alterations in scapular motion and position are frequently associated with shoulder injury and dysfunction. Scapular dyskinesia is an alteration in the normal position or motion of the scapula in relation to the thoracic cage during coupled scapulohumeral movements. Alterations in scapular position and motion occurs in a large number of injuries involving structural abnormalities, flexibility problems, and nerve injury, or caused by injuries that result in the inhibition of scapular stabilizing muscles
