The current study aimed to identify leadership succession planning and its role in achieving institutional excellence in institutes of Al-Azhar education, “a field study in Sohag Governorate. Al-Azhariya, Al-Azhar institutes and teachers, in Sohag Governorate, and the questionnaire was distributed to the sample members numbering (297), and the number of the sample members whose forms were filled out reached (253) correct forms. Weak leadership succession planning in Al-Azhar education institutes, represented in the weakness of the stages and steps of leadership succession planning and the weakness of its methods, procedures and practices, as well as the weakness of institutional excellence in Al-Azhar education institutes represented in the weakness of leadership excellence, weakness of human excellence, service excellence and excellence in operations. from planning the leadership succession in achieving institutional excellence in the institutes of Al-Azhar education, which are represented in the organizational and administrative obstacles, financial obstacles, technological obstacles, and legal and legislative obstacles,It was also found that there is a direct relationship between leadership succession planning and achieving institutional excellence in the institutes of Al-Azhar education. A set of issues, axes and requirements included the implementation of the proposed vision, obstacles to its implementation, and ways to overcome them. A theoretical framework for the study was presented that included the theoretical and cognitive framework for leadership succession planning in institutes of Al-Azhar education, the theoretical and cognitive framework for institutional excellence in Al-Azhar education institutes, and the reality of the role of leadership succession planning in achieving institutional excellence for Al-Azhar institutes in Sohag governorate.
