Abstract Bullying is a form of violence that endangers the well-being of children, youth, and adults. Bullying in schools is an important public health issue which has recently gained considerable attention in the Arab world. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Menoufia Governorate, Birket El Sab’ district, aiming to estimate the prevalence of bullying and assess the relationship between bullying and the adolescents’ mental health and selfesteem. The study setting was chosen by multi-stage random sampling technique and 340 adolescent school students participated in this study. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data involving sociodemographic data, personal, family-rated, scholastic, and street-related data. Frequency of bullying and victimization was measured using The Short Version Aggression and Victimization Scale. The Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale - 21 (DASS-21) was used to assess their mental health. The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale was used for self-esteem assessment. from the results obtained in this study, bullying is significantly prevalent among adolescent school students. Many bullies are also victims of bullying. Bullying had negative effects of bullying on mental health and self-esteem of adolescents. |
