Abstract

Though once thought to be uncommon, the increase in the incidence of breast cancer worldwide has led to an increase in breast cancer in young women < 40 years. This category of women has been found to present with more aggressive receptors negative disease than their counterparts. Despite having more aggressive disease, survival outcomes tend to be better in young patients than the elderly.
In this retrospective cohort study conducted at the medical department of the National Cancer Institute, Cairo University from January 2010 to December 2019, 122 female patients with histological diagnosis of TNBC were included. The patients were categorized as young (18-39 years) and older (≥65 years) patients. There were 81 young patients (66%) and 41 older patients (33%) having a ratio of 1.9:1. The median follow up period was 32 months with a range of 8 to 102 months.
