Abstract

Post dialysis fatigue (PDF) was identified as the perceived time to recover the ability to undertake normal activities after a dialysis, has been proposed as a meaningful variable to assess how the patient feels from and tolerates hemodialysis (HD) (Lindsay et al., 2006).
The aim of this work was to study the relation of post dialysis fatigue to; demographic, social, clinical, laboratory characteristics and hemodynamic changes assessed by cardiometry of ESRD patients on regular renal replacement therapy using different dialysis modalities (HD and HDF). Also to compare between HD and HDF regarding clinical, laboratory characteristics and hemodynamic changes assessed by cardiometry.
To achieve this target, we performed this cross sectional study on seventy three (73) ESRD patients maintained on regular hemodialysis attending Menoufia University Hospitals and Ain Shams University Hospitals during the period from December 2021 till December 2022.
Patients (n=73) were classified according to the occurrence of PDF (TIRD ≥ 2 hours) into two groups: - group (I) Patients without post dialysis fatigue & group (II) Patients with post dialysis fatigue. Then the cohort was divided according dialysis modality into two groups:-group (A) Patients on regular conventional HD & group (B) Patients on regular HDF.
In this study, all ESRD patients older than 18 years and regularly undergo thrice-weekly hemodialysis for 4 hours per session for more than 3 months.
Regarding PDF there was no statistically significant difference between the studied groups as regard sociodemographic, However the incidence of hypotension episodes was significantly higher in patients with PDF and also the UFR was higher in the same group ((P value = 0.034 and 0.000 respectively).
