Abstract In this study, we prepared different nanomaterials such as metallic nanoparticles (Ag, Au, and Ag-Au nanoparticles, semiconductors nanoparticles (CdSe), and ferromagnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4) to characterize their nonlinear absorption behavior. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), high-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HR-TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). An open aperture Z-scan setup was used to calculate the nonlinear absorption coefficient β values and signs. The calculated nonlinear absorption coefficients for Ag, Au, and (Ag-Au) nanocomposites were positive and Ag-Au NPs displays a blend of Ag and Au NPs nonlinearities. on the other hand, the negative values of β for CdSe QDs indicates that it exhibits saturable absorption. in addition to, Fe3O4–PVP polymeric film exhibits enhanced NLO, and superior optical limiting properties compared to Fe3O4 – PVA colloidal solution. That makes Fe3O4 composites and (Ag-Au) NPs composites promising candidates for optical limiting applications while CdSe can be used in Q-switching applications due to SA features. |
