However, patient usually endure anxiety, depression, diminshed confidence up to social isolation. The effect of stress on acne vulgaris is still controversial Objectives: The aim of the present study is to evaluate serum level of Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in acne vulgaris patient in relation to acne vlgaris severity. Patients and methods: This study included 70 patients with acne vulgaris and 20 age and sex matched healthy controls. Acne patients were divided into three groups according to the severity of acne (mild, moderate and severe). Clinical examination was done with estimation of serum level of Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Results: The serum level of BDNF was significantly lower in acne patients than in healthy controls. The serum level of BDNF in mild acne patients did not differ significantly from the healthy controls. Acne severity affect serum level of BDNF. Conclusion: Serum BDNF level is lower in acne patients. So, BDNF may play a role in the pathogenesis of acne and further studies are needed to clarify such a relation. Keywords: Acne vulgaris, BDNF. |
