Abstract This study was performed to compare thoracoscopic talc insufflation and tube thoracostomy doxycycline pleurodesis as regard efectiveness and safety in controlling malignant pleural effusion (MPE). Thirty patients with documented MPE were divided into 2 groups, 20 patients were subjected to thoracoscopic talc insufflation and 10 patients were subjected to doxycycline pleurodesis with a follow up period of 3 months following both procedures. Results of the study showed that both procedures achieved satisfactory success rates in controlling MPE with slightly higher success rate with talc insufflation and both techniques were not associated with major complications but frequency of complications was higher with doxycycline |
